Teletrol-One Co, the local information technology (IT) systems integration firm, is branching out into high-technology security equipment to capitalise on growing concern over public safety in the country.
The privately owned company specialises in helping other firms set up their own software, servers and computer network systems.
Vice-president Narongchai Suwanmongkol said the rise of terrorism and drug trafficking incidents in southern Thailand convinced the company of a gap in the market.
The market value of detectors of explosives, narcotics and liquids in Thailand is worth 10 billion baht annually.
And Mr Narongchai said the market is expected to grow extensively since demand for such equipment is on the rise, with a steady influx of multinational companies looking to set up locally.
A product highlight will be a device that senses hand-held and liquid explosives as well as narcotics, making it a somewhat revolutionary machine in the world of high-technology security.
The device, costing 2 million baht, will be supplied from MS Tech Co, an Israeli manufacturer of detection sensors.
Doron Shalom, CEO of MS Tech, said with the growth of terrorism, demand for detection sensors has increased.
This is particularly true in public areas such as department stores, public transportation routes and sporting venues.
Target customers are the Explosive Ordinance Disposal Team, the Royal Thai Army, the Royal Thai Police and the Office of the Narcotics Control Board.
Mr Narongchai said Teletrol-One also provides bomb disposal robots used in the southernprovinces and sonar-aided navigation equipment for underwater survey work.

Samsung announced three new devices in its ATIV line of Windows PCs and tablets: the ATIV Tab 3, the "world's thinnest" Windows tablet; the ATIV Book 9 Plus, a laptop based on the Series 9 PC; and the ATIV Q, a hybrid tablet device that runs both Windows and Android.
ATIV Q
The ATIV Q is a hybrid in more than one sense of the word. Not only does it run Windows 8 and Android side-by-side, it also acts as both a normal tablet and an Ultrabook. It has four different modes so it can act like a standard laptop with full keyboard access, a standard tablet, a raised tablet or a standing tablet mode.
It weighs just 2.8lbs and has a 13.3-inch screen running at a phenomenal 3200x1800 resolution. Samsung says its optimized to run in a variety of environments, including outdoors.
Users can transfer files and share folders between the Windows 8 and Android 4.2.2 modes, making for a more seamless experience than other hybrid approaches.
The ATIV Q works with Samsung's S Pen in both Windows and Android apps.
It runs Intel's new Haswell CPU and Samsung says it will offer up to 9 hours of battery life. It has 4GB of RAM and a 128GB SSD and is equipped with a USB 3.0 port, a USB 2.0 port, microHDMI out and an SD card slot.
ATIV Tab 3
Dubbed a "tablet with the power of a PC", Samsung claims that the ATIV Tab 3 is the world's thinnest Windows 8 tablet. It shares design elements with the Samsung Galaxy series of smartphones and tablets (maybe that's why it gets the "Tab" branding?) and is only 8.2mm thick and it weighs just 1.2lbs.
The ATIV Tab 3 is notable because its specs are basically identical to your standard Android-based tablet, only with an Intel Atom processor and running Windows 8. The 10.1-inch display has a resolution of 1366x768, it has 64GB of onboard flash storage, a microSD slot, microHDMI out and 2GB of RAM.
Samsung says it has 10 hours of battery life, putting it on par with iOS and Android tablets. It runs Windows 8, which means it can run full Windows apps. It also uses the Samsung S Pen for creative and office work. The S Pen is even compatible with Microsoft Office.
Samsung SideSync
Although the ATIV Q runs both Android and Windows 8, both new ATIV devices support something Samsung is calling SideSync. SideSync is a way for users to switch from Windows 8 to using an Android-based Samsung smart phone. This means you can use your PC keyboard to send messages on a mobile device, view maps on the larger screen of the tablet and move videos from one device to another.
English to Thai: Ultimate shear strength of reinforced concrete beam General field: Tech/Engineering Detailed field: Construction / Civil Engineering
Source text - English ABSTRACT
This dissertation presents an experimental investigation on the behavior and ultimate shear strength of reinforced concrete beam. Sixteen reinforced concrete beams was design and tested to failure. This study consists of two series of beams, which are conventional steel reinforced beams (BSN) and reinforced concrete beams with Strut and Tie Model (STM) using StaadPro software and both result were compared in term of shear strength. The main test variables were shear span-to-depth ratio (2.1 and 2.9), percent of longitudinal reinforcement ratio (tension) steel and GFRP (0.6% and 0.9%), and shear reinforcement ratio (1.5% and 0.6%). The test results revealed that the mode of failure for all beam is flexural with shear reinforcement characteristics and longitudinal reinforcement ratio play a critical role in controlling the mode of failure.
The experimental approved that the spacing between shear cracks for the specimens with larger shear span to depth ratio is greater than the smaller shear span to depth ratio and while the shear span to depth ratio (a/d) decreases, the shear strength increase. For
longitudinal reinforcement ratio it can be inferred that the higher longitudinal reinforcement ratio brings the smaller diagonal crack. Also, greater stirrup spacing leads to the greater diagonal crack, confirming that there is a significant influence of the stirrup spacing on the spacing between shear cracks.
English to Thai: Ground Water and Solutes Transport Model of the Area North-West to the Sea of Galilee General field: Tech/Engineering Detailed field: Agriculture

Abstract
Lake Kinneret supplies 25% of the annual water consumption of Israel. Saline groundwater flows into the lake mainly through offshore saline springs along the north-west coast, near Tabgha and Fuliya. Geochemical studies suggest that the saline waters are the result of mixing between two end members: fresh meteoric water and deep Ca-Cl brine.
Analysis of data indicates a difference in temporal patterns of hydrological characteristics between Tabgha and Fuliya springs: the temporal behavior of head, discharge and salinity in the Fuliya springs system follow the lake level. Rainfall events lead in Tabgha to head and discharge increase and a salinity decrease.
In this study we hypothesize that the main reason for the different phenomena observed is a difference in the spatial distribution of fractured regions that connect the regional aquifer to the lake.
Therefore, the objective of this study is to
develop three-dimensional, time dependent, numerical models that compute the flow and solute transport in both Tabgha and Fuliya spring systems. The models are based on identical hydrogeological structure, but differ in the degree of aquifer-lake connection, and the spatial distribution of fractured zones. The Fuliya system consists of more fractured regions than the Tabgha group.
The different behavior of the Fuliya and Tabgha spring groups is reproduced with an excellent agreement between measured and calculated patterns. Calculated annual discharges of water and solutes into the lake are similar to values calculated by annual mass budgets routinely performed for the lake.
It was shown that in addition to the differences in fractured regions, head at the boundary condition of the Tabgha springs system is higher than that of the Fuliya system
English to Thai: Drew Barrymore: Women Can’t Have It All – and Here’s Why General field: Other Detailed field: Media / Multimedia

It seems like Drew Barrymore can do it all: act, direct, produce, run businesses and be a mom — but she confesses that is far from the truth.
“I can’t and I don’t,” Barrymore said at Lucky‘s Fashion and Beauty Blog Conference Thursday in Los Angeles.
“It sucks when you’ve worked really hard for certain things and you have to give them up because you know that you’re going to miss out on your child’s upbringing, or you realize that your relationship has suffered.”
For the new mom to 6-month-old Olive — her first child with husband Will Kopelman — this has meant giving up one of her biggest passions: directing.
“I can’t direct right now because I would miss out on my daughter. It was heartbreaking to let it go, but it was a clear choice,” Barrymore explains.
“I was raised in that generation of women can have it all, and I don’t think you can. I think some things fall off the table. The good news is, what does stay on the table becomes much more in focus and much more important.”
While she no longer directs, the first-time mom currently has two flourishing new businesses under her belt, Barrymore Wines and Flower cosmetics, and manages to run them without missing out on diaper duty too often.
“The work-at-home component is brilliant,” says Barrymore, 38. “I was doing all my business meetings between 12 and 2 because that’s when my daughter was napping, and it helped tremendously!”
Those times when she can’t work from home, the actress admits she does feel some remorse.
“I feel guilty all the time — but you combat it by being a superhero,” says Barrymore. “When you go out there in the world you have to remember, ‘I’m doing the best I can, I’m doing it for them, and I’m going to be there for them too. I’m just going to figure out the balance.’”
