Bio

My experiences living and working in
the MENA region are the foundation for my life’s ambition: to take what I have
learned from these societies and use it to affect the public policy of my
native country, America.  I refer to this
as “reverse-development.”  This concept
is easily applied to Egypt, where the people defy the typical Western idea of
development by demonstrating that having more of the world’s goods is not
always better.  Indeed, in their less
intense materialistic attitudes, the people of Egypt and other less advantaged
countries in my opinion are socially and emotionally healthier in many ways
than the countries that are trying to “develop” it.  Why is this so?  The desire to solve this puzzle, and to seek
answers to other related questions, has driven me to develop significant
regional knowledge, Arabic language ability, professional relationships, and
problem-solving skills throughout my career within the MENA region.
