: Perhaps "contract remorse". I assume the "defendant" (if that's the right word) regretted entering into the agreement and was therefore subsequently unwilling to meet his obligations. Maybe ahab could use a similarly descriptive wording.

: I don't know whether there is a standard legal expression for this (or one that would fit the context). In any case, it sounds like the intended meaning is 'unwillingness to fulfil contractual obligations'.

: Right, I hate to see the asker close early because of an honest comment from a seasoned translator. In fact Vertragsreue is when a party realizes they overestimated their entering a contract and may often state that as grounds to terminate.

I think it must mean this. Consider Reue in criminal law, where a person regrets attempting a crime and does something to indicate that he has given up his intention.
