In contemporary psychology, most research is informed by multiple perspectives. = In contemporary psychology, most research receives its information upon which conclusions will be reached from multiple perspectives.
"To be informed by [something]" is relatively common in academic language. It is probably simpler to understand if it is taken out of the passive and placed into the active voice: "In contemporary psychology, multiple perspectives inform [supply the information for, guide, lead, are the basis of, etc.] most research."
