Spanish term

revestimiento

Spanish to English Tech/Engineering Archaeology Ceramics in the Alhambra
As I understand it, this is being used throughout the text to refer both to the linings of the kilns, where traces of heavy metals were found, and to the ceramic items themselves. If so, what is the best way to differentiate this in the translation? Perhaps 'coating' for the ceramic items, and 'lining' for the kilns?

These are the textual examples:

(=clay coating).

Many thanks for your help.

Discussion

Toni Castano Jul 15, 2023:
Revestimientos (linings) Yes, "revestimiento" seems to refer to the "linings" of the kilns available in the workshops, true, but also to the linings of the "chimneys" and "chambers", hence I think a general term like "lining" is safe and appropriate to be used in this context.
philgoddard Jul 12, 2023:
Are you sure any of these refers to the kiln lining? Could they all mean the glaze of the ceramics?
If the word does describe two different things, you might need clarification from the author.
