English term

discouraged workers

GBK English to Danish Social Sciences Economics
Jobless people who are available for work but who are not actively seeking it because they think they have poor prospects of finding a job. Discouraged workers are not counted as part of the labor force or as being unemployed.
Example sentences:
As the number of unemployed workers in the labor force continues to decline, the focus on discouraged workers and other individuals marginally attached to the labor force has increased. (The Heritage Foundation)
As you can see, the worse the recession, the more workers get discouraged. The longer our current recession drags on, the further off the reported unemployment rate will be versus the true number that includes discouraged workers. (The Atlantic Monthly Group)
Other economists, however, argue that a distinction should be made between those discouraged workers who remain available for work and those who do not even want a job. (Time Inc. )

modløse arbejdere

Definition from own experience or research:
Hvis man tæller folk med, som gerne vil have et arbejde, men som ikke leder længere - såkaldte modløse arbejdere - og folk, der arbejder deltid, men som ønsker længere arbejdstid, så øges andelen af arbejdsløse til 16 procent, siger Lockhart
Example sentences:
