French term
au cube
French to English
Tech/Engineering
Automotive / Cars & Trucks
Renault
Please help! I have posted this before but didn't get much help. I have shown it to many French people and on the whole thety say they have no idea. I can only think of 'boxy', which I don't really like because the car is quite aerodynamic, or 'plain', but if plain why does the French use 'au cube'.

third generation
Is this not a reference to the fact that this is the 3rd major overhaul of the Clio?
In which case, I think "third generation" (copying the use of this term by mobile phone companies) might work...

squared-off
just an alternative to "boxy".
But then the car isn't boxy or squared-off (except maybe at the back)! I've always hated Renault marketing drivel - I used to run a Renault dealership so have experienced it in earnest!
Rather you than me...

: Or simply "square" (man), with a different but prob. compatible set of connotations.

with the acceleration (thrust)
AU CUBE de la vitesse
With the cube of the speed
Power to overcome wind-resistance is proportional to the cube of the speed.
If it has the power to effectively overcome wind-resistance, which is speed (V) cubed. Therefore it has good acceleration or thrust
