French term

biodécoupe

French to English Tech/Engineering Forestry / Wood / Timber
This is from a website for a manufacturer of timber products (pallets, etc.). The context is:

Depuis 1980, xxxx est actif dans différents domaines (pôles) centrés sur le bois :

Pôle Packaging (biodécoupe, paletterie, service logistique..)

I understand what the term "biodécoupe" means, as I found this handy definition:

Biodécoupe
Utilisation de bois provenant de sources « locales » et uniquement au départ de découpes de 2e et 3e éclaircies, recommandée pour optimaliser la production forestière.

So this is wood from local sources taken from 2nd and 3rd thinnings - I get this. My problem is how to render it elegantly in English - the best I have so far is "eco-friendly wood harvesting" but I don't think this gets over the true meaning of the word and I wondered if there was an industry-standard term that might fit better to convey the meaning.

Thanks a lot!

Substantially more biodécoupe, though some of those use if for the "scierie qui exploite des billons de 2è et 3è éclaircies en valorisant la totalité du bois provenant de nos forêts proches.

The above definition (scierie) potentially suiting your text better.

Sorry no official explanation to give you, I either have heard this before or it just "feels right". Hence why I have put "medium" as my confidence level. Good luck.

Found a specialist website, using the term I suggested earlier on in their glossary:

Peer comment(s):

agree cc in nyc : In fact, the source text is from the same website where Susan found "biodécoupe": http://www.idelux-aive.be/pages/lexique_fr/biodecoupe.html?L... ... So a "qualified agree" But I wonder if "organic cutting" is used anywhere else?
