Accès

French to English Bus/Financial Human Resources
Hi all -

I have a HR type form I am translating into English and it is addressed to a number of different categories/types of employees who are supposed to read it.

Here are the recipients specified in the first row of the form:
"Fonction (Accès, ETE, personnel de bureau, tous):"

My attempt:
"Role (____, Summer, office staff, everyone)"

Anyone know how I might translate the word "Accès" in this context?

Thanks!

Discussion

Isabelle Parsley Aug 18, 2010:
ETE could definitely be an acronym, or just one of those weird internal things where they capitalise it to distinguish it from "being"...

I'm going to go ahead drop in an answer, might as well not give away potential points. ;) The beauty of this system is that if someone else comes along with a better (or even correct!) answer, it'll supersede mine anyway.
Michael Meskers (asker) Aug 18, 2010:
I think "Security" is absolutely right.

ETE - no idea why it is in in caps. So I am not sure if it mean Summer ( as in Summer Employees). I am wondering it it could mean something else also...

Are you sure ETE is summer? Why is it in capitals?
Isabelle Parsley Aug 18, 2010:
Quick guess, so no answer Given the context, my take on this would be either "access" or "security" -- I think the latter is definitely implied, in the sense of access-control (gate guards, entrance staff, etc.).

Access / Access control / Security

See discussion entries above. How exactly you choose to translate this may depend on context or even company-internal usage. If you can, there might be no harm in asking *them* for a little contextual clarification on what exactly they consider "access".
Peer comment(s):

agree L.J.Wessel van Leeuwen : You are naughty Isabelle.... Kudoz rules are that only one word must be suggested and no more. You may give more details in the box though. I support the security option.

I agree with Isabelle, might be worth asking for clarification. But here is another possible translation.
