French term

interruption

French to English Law/Patents Law: Contract(s) Utilities supply contract
Legal expert help needed! It's not so much the language as the concept that is confusing me here. Is the second option below saying that the parties can choose to terminate the contract a year before it expires if they don't wish to extend it? What exactly does the 'interruption' here refer to - the meeting a year before it expires? Thanks in advance for any help with this.

lack of agreement

The parties have to organise a meeting together to discuss the new terms and conditions that will apply to the renewal of their contract. It is up to the service provider to fix the date of the meeting (registered letter etc.) which is to be sent one year before the termination of the contract.

During this meeting (and possible subsequent meetings - I imagine) the parties have two choices. Either they reach agreement on the new terms and conditions or they don't. Come what may they must reach a decision at the latest three months before the termination of the contract.

If they reach agreement and thus renew the contract all is hunky-dory.

However, if they don't then the contract will terminate as provided for in the contract (termination date).

So I would say interruption is thus "lack of agreement"

"If the parties do not reach agreement on the pursance of their contractual relationship, this lack of agreement will put an end to the parties' reciprocal undertakings under this contract".

3 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "All answers were helpful on this. I dithered over Sylvia's and Marc's suggestions, but in the end went with simply 'lack of agreement' as it seemed to fit and convey the meaning adequately. Thanks to all. "

I have gone for a massive rewrite here, French2...
If the parties do not reach an agreement upon to which to continue their contractual relationship, then all reciprocal undertakings made under the terms of this Contract cease to apply.
