Discussion

Rita Tepper (asker) Nov 25, 2008:
The text in Spanish says "por muerto" Muriel, the text in Spanish says "por muerto", not "por muerte" that is why I've chosen Celia's answer, as I have found pages of the CDC which used the term YPLL per decedent.
Muriel Vasconcellos Nov 25, 2008:
It should be "per death" "Per decedent" doesn't make sense.

Reference:

PYLL or YPLL

Years of potential life lost (YPLL) or potential years of life lost (PYLL), is an estimate of the average years a person would have lived if he or she had not died prematurely. It is, therefore, a measure of premature mortality. As a method, it is an alternative to death rates that gives more weight to deaths that occur among younger people.
