Bah.

Глинозем is "argil," I think.

*May* be used in the manufacture of aluminum.

Thanks!

Laura Friend (asker) Feb 8, 2012:
Alumina Thanks Anton! I didn't know this. Děkuji!
Anton Konashenok Feb 8, 2012:
Alumina Laura, in modern usage it's "alumina". "Argil" is a very old term, gone out of professional use by now.

metallurgical(-grade) sandy alumina

... позволило бы получать крупнозернистый глинозем высших марок так называемого песочного типа (sandy alumina); применение такого глинозема в производстве алюминия дает высокий технологический и экологический эффект;

Two Perspectives on the Evolution and Future of Alumina
As a result, particularly of these feeder changes, the demands on
alumina quality have also changed. The so called Floury Alumina
(with fine particle sizes, low specific surface areas and high alpha
alumina contents) has poor flow and dissolution characteristics
and has been displaced by Sandy Alumina (with larger particle
sizes, high surface areas and low alpha alumina content).

Note from asker:
Thank you Alexey, this looks good! If I choose this answer, will "argil" still be the word for "глинозем" -- or "alumina"? It is the subject of the supply contract, so I have to get it right.
