Soberanas da Festa

Portuguese to English Other Folklore Typical festivals
No Brasil durante as festas típicas são eleitas a rainha e as princesas, e são chamadas SOBERANAS da Festa (por exemplo soberanas da festa do queijo). Há algo parecido nos EUA?

Muriel Vasconcellos Apr 14, 2016:
Royal Court This term would include the princesses, but most festivals, in the US at least, have just a queen; some have a king and queen, and only a few have princesses. If someone said 'Royal Court' to me, I would have to stop to figure out what they were talking about.

King and Queen of the Festival

At least in the U.S., we don't refer to them collectively. We tend to have more queens than kings-and-queens.

(Royal) Court

I've found two references mentioning that Soberanas = Rainhas + Princesas:

At Proms and Homecoming events (the closest I got to "parties"), the queen and princess are members of "court" or "royal court".

Ex.:

http://hhs.pasco.k12.fl.us/prom-court-nominations/

"Prom Court Nominations"

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homecoming

"The Homecoming Court is a representative group of students that, in a coeducational institution, consists of a King and Queen, and possibly Prince(s) and Princess(es)."

I hope this is somehow helpful!
