перечисляются основные преимущества данного фрезерного станка ("вертикального обрабатывающего центра"). И вот в данном предложении говорится о наличии грязевого щитка с находящимися внутри "coolant" (это принципе понятно) и "the chips" (причем тут "the" - вобще не понятно, в тексте ранее эти щепки не упоминались). Так вот возникает вопрос - что такое chips? Я думаю, что это какая-то крошка (металлическая скорее всего, или древесная стружка). Я прав?

Над благозвучной формулировкой надо еще поработать, но в общей идее я вполне уверен. Это ограждение не позволяет стружке и [смазочно-]охлаждающей жидкости (которая подается к инструменту/детали) лететь куда попало.
