French term

pignons à volutes

French to English Tech/Engineering Architecture
I would like to know if I have understood this sentence correctly, in particular the words: pignons à volutes and camper:
Sur la place principale entourée de vieilles maisons, une fontaine et un hôtel de ville Renaissance (1610) avec pignons à volutes et balcon sculpté campent le décor typique de l’Alsace traditionnelle

My translation: The main square surrounded by old houses, a fountain and a Renaissance town hall (1610) with scroll gables and carved balcony, displays the typical decor of traditional Alsace

typical setting

The main problem in my opinion is "displays the ... decor", which completely ignores the common sense of "camper le décor", i.e. to set the scene.

My shot: On the main square, a fountain and a Renaissance town hall (1610) with scrolled/voluted gables and a sculpted/carved balcony provide a typical setting of traditional Alsace.

But it still needs work...

On (the main square)//sculptured//display

Otherwise it looks good to me
Peer comment(s):

agree Anna Beria : yes, the verb should be in the plural

agree Ashley Griso (X) : I would personally say "voluted gables".

agree DPolice : scroll gables is not clear. Scrolls are decorative patterns

disagree Guereau : I wholly disagree with "sculptured" (should be at least "voluted" or "scrolled"). Disagree also with "display" as a bit "plat".
