Spanish term

judíos alepinos

Spanish to English Other Religion

Gracias a quien me pueda ayudar.

Peer comment(s):

agree Jim Tucker (X) : I tend to use this in preference to "Aleppine," which makes readers pause. Nothing wrong with "Aleppo Jews" -- English lets you make an adjective out of any noun. (Note that "Jews *of* Aleppo" will probably not work here)

Thanks Jim, yes, Aleppo Jews would probably sound better.

Jews from Aleppo

In Aleppo (Haleb), Syria, there was a very important Jewish community, now mostly gone. After immigrating, one of the trades in which they stood out was the textile trade in the Once neighbourhood of Buenos Aires. They are also known as "Halabi"

Gracias Juliana!

agree David Ronder : I think this would be clearest to an English readership

Muchas gracias Eileen. Very brave act!
neutral Jim Tucker (X) : (Aleppine.) When you say A. is a region, you are thinking of the A. Governorate, of which the city of A. is the capital. But the Jews came from the city.
