Source text - English Information and image boards afford warm welcome to Norwich International airport
Passengers arriving at Norwich International airport will soon be guaranteed a warm welcome to the city and its surrounding area thanks to the introduction of new information and image boards.
A vital theme of the project has been the importance of ensuring that major arrival points or “gateways” into cities – such as train stations, bus stations, airports and car parks – create a good first impression, and provide visitors with the basic information they need to continue their journey or to find places of interest.
The new boards being installed at Norwich International aim to provide the types of insight that a friendly person might offer a stranger – where you are, how to continue your journey, and what’s quickest, cheapest, or most convenient.
As passengers come through the exit door from customs they will find a series of bright, high-quality images which have been chosen to show off the main attractions, and to demonstrate the atmosphere of the city. They reflect its wealth of historical, cultural and shopping attractions within a pedestrian-friendly environment.
The image boards are backed up by an information board which gives passengers arriving at the airport an overview of transport and accommodation options, and a brief assessment of how long it will take to get to into the city, and how much it will cost.
A second information board will show connections with the wider region, including the North Norfolk coast, the Broads, and market towns around the county.
The 18 large image boards brighten up the arrival hall at the airport, and carry positive messages about Norwich. It is hoped that they will make people feel excited and optimistic about arriving in the city.
The aim is to convey a message that the city centre is a good place to visit – particularly as a pedestrian – and that it features wonderful heritage buildings, plenty of good shopping, diverse cultural attractions, and a variety of events throughout the year.
Most of the images have been selected from Norwich City Council’s photo archive, and will be added to as new pictures become available. The area is so rich that it is impossible to show everything in one go! The idea is to give a flavour of the city, and to encourage people to explore it.
And it isn’t just visitors from afar who can benefit. Even people who already live in Norwich, or who know the city, are likely to welcome a reminder of its many attractions. We hope they will feel proud of what their city has to offer – and perhaps be tempted to visit a local landmark they’ve somehow not quite got around to!
Translation - German Herzlich willkommen am internationalen Flughafen von Norwich!
