अमर उजाला(हिन्दी दैनिक) के अनुसार, मानव संसाधन विकास राज्यमंत्री डी. पुंडेश्वरी ने राज्यसभा में शुक्रवार को एक प्रश्न के लिखित जवाब में यह जानकारी दी कि देश में पिछले 6 दशकों के दौरान नौ भाषाएं समाप्त हो चुकी हैं और 103 लुप्त होने की कगार पर हैं, साथ ही उन्होने ये भी बताया कि 84 भाषाएं ऐसी हैं, जिनको बोलने वालों की संख्या में निरंतर गिरावट आ रही है।सरकार इन भाषाओं के निरंतर संरक्षण के लिये प्रयासरत है.
