Dear members,

The last ProZ.com event for 2010 took place this past weekend, on the Eiffel Tower in Paris, and I would like to take a moment to review this year's events, and thank all of the hard-working organizers who prepared them, and all the professionals who spoke at and attended these events.

Events were held in the following cities this year:

  • Montevideo, Uruguay
  • Cairo, Egypt
  • São Paulo, Brazil
  • Prague, Czech Republic
  • Santiago de Chile
  • Buenos Aires, Argentina
  • Barcelona, Spain
  • Paris, France

Three virtual events and one virtual companion to an in-person event were held:
  • The second ProZ.com virtual conference for freelance translators
  • The ProZ.com virtual conference for translation agencies
  • The ProZ.com virtual conference for translation consumers
  • The virtual companion to the 2010 ProZ.com conference in France

There were also over 200 powwows held around the world.

Thanks to everyone who participated in making these events happen: organizers, speakers, attendees and sponsors!

A full listing of past ProZ.com events can be seen at http://www.proz.com/conference/?show_mode=conferences&sp_submode=past_conferences

2011 in ProZ.com events will continue offering both the in-person and virtual, with new features and event types, and marked value for ProZ.com members.

For 2011, you can expect more in-person events, each with their "virtual companion"; a virtual component for the event where participants can view sessions and material, and interact with the speakers and in-person attendees for those events.

Mark your calendars for the virtual event for freelancers, which will be held once again on September 30th, International Translation Day.

The "virtual companions" and the virtual event for freelancers will be free to all ProZ.com members, and available for a fee to non-members.

In addition, look for more virtual event activity, more often. Plans include:

  • regularly-held focus groups, with topics submitted and voted on by members,
  • virtual powwows, and
  • virtual workshops on specific fields or topics, in various languages.

These virtual events will compliment the benefits of in-person events such as conferences, seminars and powwows for both in-person and virtual attendees.

As these events are set, you will be able to view them at http://www.proz.com/conference/ and http://www.proz.com/translation3 . Events will also be shown on the ProZ.com events calendar, at http://www.proz.com/events_calendar/

    Best regards,

    Jared

More virtual events are welcome Dec 8, 2010

Thanks for including more virtual events in 2011! As I live in India, some of the in-person events are held quite far away and require a lot of advance planning, so it's good to be able to attend events online

Thanks to ProZ.com and the event organisers for all the efforts being made in this area.
