The actors are what drives this movie, none of it would work without them. Joaquin Phoenix's Leonard is at the very center of the movie. He does an excellent balancing act making us pull for Leonard despite his self-absorbed and off-putting behavior. This balance is seriously tested at the end of the movie. In fact, I am not at all sure that Phoenix is able to maintain it. But his performance is an impressive work of characterization that needs to be seen. It would have been easy for the Kraditors, Leonard's parents, to come off as overbearing. But Rossellini and Moshonov's performances don't allow this to happen. http://www.examiner.com/article/dvd-review-of-two-lovers-an-... -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 hr (2013-01-23 00:05:00 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Oscar nominations have everyone in Hollywood buzzing with predictions, observations, and trends. Directors' mega-films got less notice than movies with meaty roles for actors, some note. http://www.csmonitor.com/The-Culture/Movies/Oscar-nomination... |
