What Is Google Translate?
Google Translateis a free translation service developed by Google that provides instant translations between different languages.
How Google Translate Works?
By using what is called statistical machine translation, Google Translatedetects language patterns in documents that have already been translated by human translators and makes the assumption as to what the appropriate translation should be. Since the translations are generated by machines, it’s important to note that not all translations will be perfect. The more human-translated documents that Google Translate can analyze in a specific language, the better the translation quality will be.
Why Do We Have Google Translate?
The Toronto District School Board website and its web pages arewritten in English. With the help of Google Translate, the TDSB hopes to make information more accessible to families whose first language is not English.
What If Google Translate Doesn’t Translate To My Language?
If your language is not available in Google Translate, the TDSB also provides translations for a number of its most-visited web pages. If you have further questions, please contact your local school for assistance. Users may also wish to help Google with improving or adding translations by visiting their website.
Disclaimer
The electronic translation service on the Toronto District School Board website is hosted by Google Translate, a third party service. The TDSB does not guarantee or warrant the reliability, accuracy or completeness of any translated information.
The quality of the translation will vary in some of the languages offered by Google. Google Translate is a free service and currently offers translation in over 100 languages, but does not capture all languages or dialects.
The basic translation goal is to capture the general intention of the original English material. Before you act on translated information, we encourage you to confirm any facts that are important to you or may affect any decisions you make.
The Toronto District School Board is committed to equity and community engagement, and by providing this tool, we are making our information more accessible to families whose first language is not English.
