Here is the context in full:

"La SICAV est une société dont le capital et le nombre d'actions ne sont pas déterminés d'avance, dont le capital se compose ** des actions des entrepreneurs ** et des actions des investisseurs et qui ne répond de ses engagements que sur la fortune sociale."

The accounting may shed some light. Under IFRS, SICAV units are are not equity in the company but rather liabilities to unit-holders. The liability of the management company may be limited to the capital put up by the founders and investors in that co.

No, I think you should say shares here rather than units. I know what you mean though, you often hear of "parts " in association with SICAV.

I think you'll find these are the shares held by the people who initially set up and launch the SICAV and, in some instances, then manage the funds .

No you're not daft Sandra, the word entrepreneur isn't actually mentioned. However the following sentence led me to my suggestion :

Les gestionnaires [entrepreneurs?] de ces sociétés se chargent de constituer et de gérer des portefeuilles composés de valeurs mobilières (actions , obligations) avec les fonds déposés par leurs souscripteurs [investisseurs?]. See wikipédia's definition too.
