It's complicated Basically, if you search "pousse qui vise" on Google Books, it only gives you an incomplete extract of the book les honneurs perdu, which shows up on the search, but not on the link. In this incomplete extract, it briefly describes how they trace boxes in the sand, throw in a pebble, and then...using one leg, and then it stops. I wrote this description into the Google search box, and the game that showed up was Marelle = hopscotch. Found no direct reference between the two, but games have so many different names in different French speaking countries so hard to tell.
Seemed all a bit far fetched, so I didn't bother posting it as an answer.

Guess based on research and deduction so take with pinch of salt, but read a bit more in the book on google and it talks about tracing squares in the sand then hopping on one leg....In French the more common way of calling this game is "marelle", and in English it is called hopscotch.
