English term

water rat-proof base

English to French Tech/Engineering Furniture / Household Appliances wash machine
I would like to translate this technical option for a washing machine.

Discussion

Agnes T-H May 24, 2011:
Not to mention that "rot proof steel" is used too Like in "rot proof steel welded wire fence" or "Triumphs from that era seem to have been made from rot-proof steel" or "phosphate film rot-proof steel sheet " or "rot proof steel wire mesh weave wire mesh fencing "(Google) ....
FX Fraipont (X) May 24, 2011:
Just Google Water-rot-proof and you will see.... Washing machines are made of steel. Steel rusts, it does not "rot". And before posting a reference that criticizes someone's answer, make sure you read it, and make sure the material is comparable.
Agnes T-H May 24, 2011:
Rot proof silly?? No need to be so aggressive, throwing insults does not give a good image to potential clients....Could "base" refer ONLY to steel ? I can see nothing that states so.(I might be silly too?)... Looking at my own washing machine I can see a whole bunch of plastic parts (including pipes)that should be water-rot-proof to avoid leaks... Owwwww maybe it could be "not that dumb" to think it COULD possibly be a typo....?
FX Fraipont (X) May 24, 2011:
so what ? "250 Litre rot proof, fork-liftable mortar trough, made from food grade polymer Applications Dog Grooming."
the trough is 250 litre, rot proof polymer.
"rot proof cotton canvas"
We are talking about a steel washing machine, not a polymer washing machine, not a canvas washing machine.

rot-proof steel is plain silly
Agnes T-H May 24, 2011:
Just Google Water-rot-proof and you will see.... Some are pretty much affirmative, saying "water rot proof" does not make sense but obviously it makes complete sense for a whole bunch of people/companies.... "300 Litre water rot proof, fork-liftable mortar tub, made from food grade polymer "
"Outer off made of water rot proof cotton canvas white of dyed whereas the inner roof is made of two folds (canvas sheeting)" etc.... It could definitively be a typo...
kashew May 24, 2011:
Rat, rot or rust? I think I would ask for confirmation.
FX Fraipont (X) May 24, 2011:
Rot vs rats I can't imagine "rot" applied to the steel base of a washine machine. They stopped using wood a while ago ...
And water-rot does not make sense
Didier Fourcot May 24, 2011:
Possible typo? What about "rot-proof"?
I have seen more washing machine suffering from rusting and rot on their base (a number make them out of plastic for this reason) than from rats?
silvester55 May 23, 2011:
@ Fx en lisant ton commentaire je me suis demandée qui pourrait bien etre ce Tom , LOL.Tu as raison , les rats montent dans les canalisations .
FX Fraipont (X) May 23, 2011:
It's water rats that creep up through the sewers and drain pipes up to the washing machine.

"Maybe Tom and I misunderstood you or vice versa. Rats will eat almost everything if they are hungry, even hose. They will eat rat bait long before the hose so the bait will attract them before they nibble on your hose. I assumed the $400 was to repair the washer and everything else that got damages when the water shot out of the eaten hose. A new machine isn't needed in this situation and they'd eat the new hose too so try the bait."

kashew May 23, 2011:
Maybe it's water-rat-proof base?!
silvester55 May 23, 2011:
@ asker I think it is only rat-proof base , water has nothing to do in the sentence.

Socle à l'épreuve des rongeurs et de l'humidité

I don't think that it refers to water-rat (rat d'eau) who is not only counting among endangered species but in addition who is living only in riverbeds....
Obviously it refers to all rodents that are feeling at ease in the warmth of a washing-machine's back.....

Il faut installer des dispositifs de protection, comme des sorties de vidange à l'épreuve des rongeurs et des portes hermétiques.

agree kashew : water rats = drain rats ?

Thanks - I think so - many species are possible in French, but you need the water-loving kind (not all of them are)
