OK! In that case, I'd say it definitely is a typo for 'rivering' (which is at least a word that exists in the OED!)

The fact that it recurs might be explained by the fact that a spell-checker would not find 'rivering', but would find 'revering', hence it would be all too easy for the typist to select 'replace all' — and hey presto! your typo is propagated throughout the document.
