écart négatif

Tricky, as a 'budget underage' is hardly negative!

An 'overage' might well be a 'dépassement', but it's hard to see what to call the opposite...

This sounds better:

How about 'sous-utilisation'? That corresponds to 'underspend', which is really all this term means here.

agree John ANTHONY : ??? Very tricky, dear Friend... Why is it that people make things so "intricate" that nobody can really understand what they are talking about...? :-))

Hi John... and thanks! Well, I can understand it OK, it's just an awkward way of looking at it...! "Confuse and rule!"

surplus budgétaire

Je crois que c'est bien ce dont il s'agit. La diff. positive entre les sommes budgetés et les sommes dépensées.
Peer comment(s):

agree Tony M : Well, yes, that's really what they're talking about; an 'underspend' in fact. But I guess 'surplus' sort of looks at it the other way round, if you see what I mean? "Too much budget" rather than "too little spend"

excédents budgétaires

another way of looking at the same thing:

"excédents" as the bit that was "more than needed", that was surplus to requirement
