: you missed the point of "cleared" (look for "cleared cheques" ... in UK / US banking) // "cleared" = 'enregistré'? tell that to UK US bankers, they need to learn it ....

Nope. "cleared" = 'enregistré'. At least this suggestion is correct FR

: Where do you see "authorised" in the ST? Suppose: authorised overdraft = 1000 used 50 => interest charged on 1000? If someone done that to your account you wouldn't be very happy...// the effectively used overdraft is charged interest.

: all I can find is "apurer un compte" as in "reconciliation" of two accounts (which is NOT the case of this ST)- any real-life sample of "compte/solde apuré" in any other meaning?

cleared daily overdraft balance = overdraft balance at the end of each day, taking in account only "cleared" items (cleared cheques)
the notion of "cleared cheques" is linked to the fact that a cheque deposited into an account and credited to that account could well be not "cleared", i.e. the payment of the cheque could be refused by the emiiting bank (for various reasons: lack of funds, cheque cancelled, etc ...).
Only payments that are "cleared" i.e. final/confrimed for sure are counted for the daily balance. A cheque that's not cleared is not counted.

take note: the ref is from Canada, operating under the same banking system as US / UK regarding cheques, where a bounced cheque is not a big deal as it is in France.

: "solde quotidien final du découvert du compte bancaire" (sic)... How about suggesting some FR instead? / Speaking of understanding the ST, do you realize that you provide a fully detailed explanation about cheques... while ST is about overdrafts?

how about checking the meaning of the ST first? Too old fashioned? Ever occured to you that the fact that a cheque has cleared or not has an impact on the cleared balance of the account? or they forgot to put that in the glossary?

Merci!

Discussion
Thank you all, still thinking....

that's the definition of "reconciliation" (in accounting) comparing two sets of figures/accounts - in most big accounting departments you have people doing "reconciliation" (usually matching payments to invoices)
In this ST "cleared" is about what bankers call "cleared funds", cleared not by comparing to any other account but by being sure that what’s in the account is real money, not worthless “chèque sans provision".
the "cleared" in the ST refers to this kind of "cleared funds" - the overdraft at the end of each day is calculated taking into account only "cleared funds" i.e. cheques that have been deposited into the account are disregarded until "cleared" (= cashed).
