French term

FPVG

French to English Bus/Financial Finance (general) investment and risk-allocation rules
F = fonds; VG stands for "à vocation générale"; the 'P' could be "de placement" or "privé" - I just don't know.

The acronym occurs in just 3 separate instances in an 8-thousand-word document. It is related to FIVG for which I have already posted a request here.

A distinction is made between FPVG and the already-queried FIVGs: "Ils [FPVGs] appliquent un risque de contrepartie dans des conditions similaires aux FIVG (les FPVG n’ont pas d’obligation de limiter leur risque de contrepartie)."

As stated for my earlier query today, I have exhausted the resources of ProZ.com, WordReference, Linguee, and strangely, IATE and the AMF website.

However, Article L214-144 of the Code Monétaire et financier refers to "fonds professionnel à vocation générale" - can anyone confirm whether this would be a "Market Traded Fund" (MTF)?

As regards that Code, the latest English translation I am aware of does not have the same numbering as the up-to-date French Code on Legifrance, and neither of the queried terms is documented in that translation.

If I find anything more about these two peculiar species, I shall update these posts.

Again, I shall appreciate your help.

With kind regards,

Adam Warren

Thanks Ian -- more and more, French companies and institutions (universities, government agencies, etc.) have their names and material translated into English, and a customer can't argue with a translation which has been approved by the organisation in question.

Conor, over to you now! Could you post the relevant entry as your answer, so that I can award you the points?
Conor McAuley Dec 10, 2013:
Actually... On http://www.amf-france.org/en_US/Actualites/Communiques-de-pr...

click on

"Table of the new range of funds"

in the "Read more" section at the bottom for a PDF document summarising the names of the new funds.
Adam Warren (asker) Dec 10, 2013:
AMF link That's a brainwave, thank you, Conor.
Conor McAuley Dec 10, 2013:
You're welcome -- that's about as far as I can take it for you.
Adam Warren (asker) Dec 10, 2013:
"Market-traded fund" exists so that circumscribes my freedom to invent, unless an MTF is excluded. I think there is a flood of new terms in the recent legislation, probably to catch up with financial-market developments in the English-speaking world. In any case, thank you, Conor, for your contribution.

"investment funds currently offered by French managers. Some ***names will change as a result;***"
Conor McAuley Dec 10, 2013:
Thanks Ian. The French version is a very recent version (amended 2013) and the English translation refers to a previous version, so you're free to make up your own term.
Adam Warren (asker) Dec 10, 2013:
Heading and 1st line, Article L214-144 of the French Monetary and Financial Code: see http://www.legifrance.gouv.fr/affichCode.do?idArticle=LEGIAR...
Conor McAuley Dec 10, 2013:
Hi Ian, have you considered the possibility of a typo? The P and the I are close together on a French computer keyboard. And three typos in 8,000 words is a real possibility. The author might have just clicked through when they were flagged by a spellchecker.

Otherwise, I found no matches for "fonds professionnel à vocation générale" in the French version of the Code and none for "Market Traded Fund" in the English version.

This is the one I think FPVG corresponds to, but I may be wrong.
