French term
conseil déloyal
French to English
Bus/Financial
Finance (general)
In a published book on business ethics, author writes the following phrase which lists essentially misdeeds in business:
...droits de l’homme, fraude comptable, corruption, conseil déloyal...
I say:
...human rights, accounting fraud, corruption, [insider trading?]...
But isn't this délit d'initié?
I cannot find any meaning for this term. Certainly "déloyal" translates as "unfair" as in "commerce deloyal", but I cannot find the meaning of "conseil deloyal."

advice in bad faith
"False advice" doesn't do it for me. There is no doubt about what this phrase means, though.
Often expanded to "advice given/provided in bad faith", but it resists contraction to "bad-faith advice".

insincere advice
It's a guess, but I'm pretty sure it's on the mark.
I think it is understood by "insincere advice" that someone who one would normally think could be counted on to give good advice would instead give suboptimal advice (perhaps even advice which would be explicitly damaging if acted upon) in order to reduce the relative position of the individual or group receiving the advice.

misleading advice
Misleading: to lead in a wrong direction or into a mistaken action or belief often by deliberate deceit [Merriam-Webster]
20 hrs
biased, flawed and misrepresented advice
That covers it all doesn't it ? You could use one, two or the three of them together, as in here :
http://saveourrail.org.au/?p=216
But "misrepresented advice" is by itself a strong candidate.

false advice
i.e. not just simple and plain incompetence, but giving someone deliberately the wrong advice - like advisers who will recommend you to buy shares in a company while knowing the shares are about to fall.

: Does "false" mean " wrong" , "misguiding" etc. or something that looks like an advice but is not an advice? A false witness is false not because he says things that are false (that's just a consequence) but because he is false as a witness, he is not a...

: Advice can consist of entirely true statements and still be given in bad faith if relevant information known to the adviser is left out of it. Sins of omission count too..

True! The worst lies are lies by omission! It would still be "false advice" (lying by omission) - I think you could still use either "in bad faith" or "false" in such case.

The one instance I could find on line. Perhaps helpful for context
