Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (2): philgoddard, Helen Shiner

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

Francis Marche Sep 18, 2014:
French academia pomposity for belly-button literature, anatomically very close to "littérature de la braguette".
philgoddard Sep 18, 2014:
When all else fails... ... look at the syllabus. They call it Writing About Self.

writing the self...a more therapeutic exercise
Peer comment(s):

agree Helen Shiner : This is the better suggestion since often such writing is intended expressly for public consumption, unlike personal writing, which is just as likely to be private.

agree Marian Vieyra : As per Phil's ref "In case of disagreement on interpretation French-language titles and descriptions take precedence." So, it doesn't have to be spot on.

I'm assuming it's a literature course, not a philosophy course. This answer only works if it is a lit course.
Peer comment(s):

agree Rachel Fell : definitely sounds as though it's in the literary field/department - http://www.uottawa.ca/academic/info/regist/calendars/courses...

Thankss. My answer is based on Asker's explanation. /the translation Phil found proves it's got nothing to do with authorial conceit, etc. etc.

First-person writings

- in other words, writing based on oneself

there appears to be a presentation on "First person writings in European contexts" here: http://www.firstpersonwritings.eu

It has the rather ugly (imo!) subheading of "Egodocuments"
Peer comment(s):

neutral Helen Shiner : They may use that term, but it is possible to have a fictional protagonist who speaks/writes in the first person, i.e. it is an authorial conceit, so I think this is a bit confusing./Not Freud, but creative literature and critical theory underpinning it.

it could be confusing. However, one of the categories listed is "autofiction". Trouble is, "writings on the self" seems to be connected with psychoanalysis - Freud, Jung, etc, which I don't imagine this is about, so that doesn't really work either!
agree Rachel Fell : Yes, I think so, as writeaway suggested too

thanks Rachel!
agree Marian Vieyra : Yes, as it doesn't have to be spot on according to the university course description.

Thanks Marian! "Ego writings" also seems to exist!

Journaling

Personal Diaries

The trick is perhaps not only to find a term that could cover all the different types of writing as that is given in the course syllabus but a nice expression as well.
This late entry does the job for me as personal diaries are often published by the author or their family and can appear in newspapers as kinds of observations on politics, society etc.
