Hello, the zu 6, and there are also defendants zu 7 and 8. All instances seem to be referring to a different document. A legal action that preceded this one. A defendant for count 6 sounds like it is getting the meaning across. Is there a proper legal way of saying it in English?

"Streitgenossen werden fortlaufend nummeriert. Dabei sollten mehrere Streitgenossen nichtunter einer fortlaufenden Nummer zusammengefasst werden, auch wenn es sich um Eheleute oder enge Verwandte handelt.

Your practical legal drafting experience in both DE & EN is obviously different (AE) than/(BrE) to mine. A corporate defendant in German doesn't pluralis/ze.
agree Sebastian Witte : Yes, I think the plural makes more sense with a company. Will however also agree with the slightly less appropriate singular Defendant.

The defendant under count 6

is meant here, at least in US legal parlance; definitely not the 6th defendant. E.g., the jury foreman's prescribed standard phrase in announcing a verdict is: "Guilty on all counts, Your Honor" (or alternatively in answering the judge's question: "Count one: Not guilty".....etc. "Count 6: Guilty".
Evidently, the reference is to manufacture and distribution of products dealt with in count 6.
