Dear translators:

This is the context-

"El dinamismo, la eficiencia y eficacia de XXXXX siguen consolidándose a través de la alta utilización de sus equipos, procesos automatizados de gestión de equipos, buenas prácticas de mantenimiento preventivo, continuos programas de capacitación de operadores y, por último, una logística integrada a todas las actividades productivas, aportando un gran valor económico con un índice de compra de 85% y una nueva política de gestión de stocks que ha contribuido en reducir estos en 31% con relación al 2014".

Thanks!

Thanks. I would ask the client to explain the meaning, which may be specific to that company. You could just do a literal translation, purchase index, but that's not very helpful to the reader.
lasaruzza (asker) May 10, 2016:
Dear Phil:

It's a construction company.
philgoddard May 10, 2016:
It probably means the proportion of potential customers who buy something, for example visitors to a website. But what kind of company is this?

purchasing index

= cost of purchases divided by total sales compared to prior year.
In other words, the 85% represents an improvement in cost to sales to the prior year, 2014.

This ref is quite length, but the index discussion is somewhere in the lower third of the page.

As a side note, there was also a reduction in the amount of inventory (stock) carried.

purchasing index

Or purchase managing index (PMI).
Example sentence:

The purchasing index (based on purchasing attempts by youngsters and their chances of success as determined by the response of the vendor) fell during the same period from 23 per cent to 5 per cent.

neutral philgoddard : I don't think this conveys an instantly clear meaning, and I wouldn't normally cite Linguee as a reference. I think it needs to be paraphrased.

neutral bigedsenior : Although, you gave the correct response, your reasons have nothing to do with the question.

It seems that Cristina and I uploaded the same proposals at the same time. I guess this happens sometimes :)

Purchasing Manager's Index

This term refers to a purchasing index in industry, a macro economic indicator. It does not refer to the consumer's purchase intent.
Example sentence:

.... with a PMI of 85%

Peer comment(s):

neutral philgoddard : I don't think it's anything to do with macroeconomics. It's about one company. Also, your reference is to a US index.

disagree bigedsenior : Your explanation negates your answer. This is about the internal ratios of a specific company. The PMI is a globalized average of many companies of a given country/state/region.

sales index

A sales index is designed to help managers track trends in their annual sales revenue totals. The sales index expresses the current year's sales revenue as a percentage of a base year's sales revenue. A sales index of over 100 indicates a year in which sales exceeded the base year's totals, while a number of less than 100 shows that the current year's sales under-performed in comparison to the base year. Managers can analyze sales index numbers to determine the success or failure of the company's overall sales strategies
Peer comment(s):

neutral philgoddard : I don't see why they'd say "compra" if they meant "sales". And your explanation is lifted from someone else's website without attribution.

No! No! If they buy, then the company in question SELLS!
