English term

through-fastened (metal roof)

English to French Tech/Engineering Construction / Civil Engineering Roofing
Sentence: "The product is designed to form a waterproof and rustproof seal on through-fastened metal roofs."

Context: product information about roof coating used to protect metal roofs. Information for a French Canadian market.

I had assumed this would be a "toiture métallique à fixation traversante" but cannot find a translation :( Thanks ahead of time!

Discussion

Laurie Bennett (asker) Oct 23, 2019:
@ Tony M I absolutely agree that we are talking about a fastening method that passes through all sheets. My concern is that "through-fastening" is very commonly used in English, while "fixation perçante", "fixé par perforation", etc. do not appear to be comm in French sources. I wonder if there is a better expression that is preferred in the industry.
Tony M Oct 22, 2019:
@ Asker It is already abundantly clear from your text that this is talking about the sealing issues that always arise when sheet roofing has to be fastened in a way that means the fixings have to penetrate or 'pass through' the sheets — that's what 'through-fastened' means!
Laurie Bennett (asker) Oct 22, 2019:
En attente de l'approbation du client Bonjour à tous,

Thanks for taking the time to answer. Given the lack of common/reliable sources, I have sent "... recouvrement transversal" to an industry specialist for approval. Will close this question once they have confirmed.

Cheers!

agree Tony M : I was going to say 'par fixation perçante', but I think your suggestion is probably better!

fermement fixés

just an assumption based on my understanding of the sentence.
Peer comment(s):

disagree Tony M : This fails to translate the all-important 'through' aspect — are you confusing it with 'thorough'?
