English term (edited):
attitude
Selected
position
This is the term used in the FR version of the IEC standard quoted below by our colleague.
I have to say, though, that I think this 'official' translation is actually not good, and I prefer Florence's 'orientation' for the way it is used in this context.

Thanks, Daryo! Yes, I think so too; sadly, the 'official' translations of standards are not always perfect!

: That is in a totally different and highly specialized context; I don't think this sense applies here in FR.

INTRODUCTION
This test is divided into two procedures. The first simulates falls which a specimen, normally in the unpacked state, could undergo during handling and is normally restricted to two falls from a prescribed attitude onto a specified surface from a specified height.
The second procedure simulates repeated falls which may occur to such devices as connectors or small remote control units which are normally attached to cables during use. Repeated fails onto a specified surface from a specified height are achieved by using a suitable apparatus, e.g. a tumbling (rotating) barrel.

Has the status of a basic safety publication in accordance with IEC Guide 104.

: Yes... but the term is used in the FR version of that standard is in fact 'position' (though personally, I consider that a mistranslation!)
