My Polish grandma always used to do these types of crossword puzzles - they are the kind that don’t give you the placement of the entries.
In my family we would always refer to them as “Jolkas” but I’m wondering if there is a direct English translation out there?
This is just for personal interest, any suggestions would be appreciated :)

Have a look into https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crossword .
Not 100% sure.
BTW Jolka (with a capital letter) is a diminutive for the female given name of Jolanta. When talking crossword, simply "krzyżówka jolka" (no capitalisation) is sufficient.

: I'am not certain if a "Jolka" here has to be written capitalised, but If not, the word "Jolka/jolka" should appear in your translation. There's plenty of crosswords worldwide, and this one regards Jolka! ;)

Thx for your agree. Still, please read again: For a crossword type, simply "krzyżówka jolka" (no capitalisation) is sufficient.

In all seriousness, I’ll never think of ‘Jolka’ (the name or the puzzle) without seeing those little books with creepily zoomed in women’s faces on the cover. I’m slightly upset they never made it to the UK.
Ekskjuz mi, to był oftopik. :-)
for example: a performance à la Charlie Chaplin
Meaning - like Charles Chaplin, not him in person ...
Otherwise, I do not follow you today so I will come back to the issue tomorrow... :))
