Sound Field Aided Pure Tones

English to French Medical Medical (general) Audiology
Bonjour,
Merci beaucoup d'avance
Sophie

The aided sound-field threshold (ASFT) represents the softest sound that the wearer can hear inside the audiometric test booth when using a hearing aid. For a wide dynamic range compression (WDRC) hearing aid without a volume control (VC), the aided threshold approximates the softest sound that the wearer hears in real-life listening situations.1 This perceptual index reflects the “audibility of sounds” to the hearing aid user.

What is soundfield testing?
Sound field testing refers to the method of audiology testing that takes place in a sound-isolated room via speakers. It is performed without the use of headphones or in-ear sound devices. It’s commonly used for young children who are unwilling to wear headphones during aided testing.

Overview
Assistive hearing technologies, such as cochlear implants and hearing aids are provided to children with hearing losses in order to provide access to speech sounds. One common measure that is used to assess access to speech sounds across the speech frequency range is the Ling-6 sounds (/m/, /u/, /a/, /i/, /∫/, and /s/). The live voice method of administering Ling-6 sounds was originally proposed by Daniel Ling (Ling, 1989) and is often used to assess whether a child can detect sounds that lie within the speech spectrum of hearing. Recently, the Ling-6 sounds have been recorded, calibrated, and used within a bracketed threshold measurement procedure in hearing aid research studies. Such studies have demonstrated that calibrated Ling-6 sounds can be used to reliably bracket speech sound detection thresholds, and are sensitive to change across different hearing aid treatments (Glista et al., 2009; Wolfe et al., 2011).

so

Sound Field + Aided + Pure Tones
=
- hearing test conducted in a "sound field" using "pure tones" (one single frequency)
- What is "aided" is the hearing of the patient - i.e. the test is done with the patient wearing the hearing aid. As opposed to testing what's the patient's hearing without any hearing aid.
