No creo que la adenda "fuera de lo normal" o equivalente resulte realmente adecuada al caso. Pero tampoco creo que sirva una simplificación excesiva como "experiencias visuales o auditivas", ya que estas son comunes y habituales -salvo que se añada la adenda "sin estímulo desencadenante": "gente con experiencias visuales o auditivas sin un estímulo (externo) desencadenante / sin un desencadenante externo".
Creo que en el contexto la idea de experimentar imaginería mental puede leerse como equivalente a la formulación y a la intencion expresiva del original.
