Correspondent account (往来账户) wiki A correspondent account is an account (often called a nostro or vostro account) established by a banking institution to receive deposits from, make payments on behalf of, or handle other financial transactions for another financial institution. 通常來講，外國銀行在某國需要進行本幣支付和收款時，會需要設立往來賬戶。銀行通常需要在它沒有分行或分支機構的地區設立往來賬戶，用於存放當地貨幣。這是因為絕大多數央行僅接受在其管轄地區內開展業務的機構來登記存款或轉移資金。除了極少數的特殊場景之外，一個銀行持有的外幣資金（無論是其自有或為其客戶代持）實際上存放在它在該幣種所屬地區開設的往來賬戶中。

即便是當一家銀行在多個地區設立了分行或分支機構，它在某一個地區對應的當地貨幣賬戶餘額也會通過其在當地分行或分支機構、或當地另一家機構開設的往來賬戶進行存放。例如，滙豐銀行通過它的美國分支機構「滙豐美國」（HSBC Bank USA）來接收美元，而星展銀行通過摩根大通來接收美元。
