Reading up on new technology....a palavra "package" à vezes tem um significado especial, um conjunto (set, jogo) opcional para algum propósito, novo, especial.

Packages, special term "1.0 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Ricardo has been subcontracted by Perrin Quarles Associates, Inc. (PQA) under
contract to the EPA to carry out an objective and scientific analysis of the influence of
certain technology packages on automotive CO2 emissions and vehicle performance.
The scope of the study was to determine the quantitative impact of technology
combinations, or packages, when applied to baseline vehicles. The EPA selected the
vehicle classes and the **technology packages*** which were applied, as well as a baseline
comparator vehicle for each class. Vehicle performance metrics were considered
simultaneously with CO2 emissions in order to indicate the potential impact on consumer
acceptability. Vehicle performance metrics were considered an important part of the
study as these can significantly influence the desirability of a vehicle to car buyers

co2 reducing rings located lower on piston (what are we working on Hyundai or diesel engine?) "In current designs of the automotive (kinematic) Stirling engine, the piston rings are made of a reinforced polymer and are located below the pistons (do they mean lower piston lands, lower on piston, some are lower pressure and lower on the piston) because they cannot withstand the high temperatures in the upper cylinder area. Theoretically, efficiency could be improved if hot piston rings were located near the top of the pistons. Described is a program to select piston ring and cylinder coating materials to test this theory. Candidate materials were screened, then subjected to a pin or disk friction and wear test machine. Tests were performed in hydrogen at specimen temperatures up to 760 C to simulate environmental conditions in the region of the hot piston ring reversal. Based on the results of these tests, a cobalt based alloy, Stellite 6B, was chosen for the piston rings and PS200, which consists of a metal-bonded chromium carbide matrix with dispersed solid lubricants, was chosen as the cylinder coating. Tests of a modified engine and a baseline engine showed that the hot ring reduced specific fuel consumption by up to 7 percent for some operating conditions and averaged about 3 percent for all conditions evaluated. Related applications of high-temperature coatings for shaft seals and as back-up lubricants are also described.

Spry oil on piston from underneath...COOLING Ducts, "Diesel pistons are cooled by spraying oil at the underside of the piston and directing some of the oil into hollow cavities or galleries in the top portion of the piston behind the upper ring land. On some pistons, an oil cooling duct or gallery is positioned behind the upper ring groove to help cool the rings.

Discussion
ring package usually means SET, Group, jogo (spanish juego de anillos)
GDI engines, something new to most of us, some type of low pressure rings designed to kepp co2 carbon depostis from getting into the oil? (this product not related to GDI rings, co2 tanks instead?)
