Arabic term

المعامل

Arabic to English Other Certificates, Diplomas, Licenses, CVs Uni details, Lebanon
This is on an إفادة from the Lebanese University. It lists المواد then العلامة على 20 then المعامل then العلامة النهائية. If anyone could provide the meaning, and also how this is calculated, I would be grateful.

Discussion

algtranslator Sep 17, 2006:
No doubt! Coefficient for sure, I taught this myself and am very familiar with "coefficient". The higher it is, the more the module is important!
Sam Berner (asker) Sep 17, 2006:
Lets say she got 10.5/20 as her mark, and the معامل is 6, the Total Mark seems to be the معامل times the Mark Out of 20, and she has 90 as a Total. The معامل is different for different subjects, and varies anywhere between 2 and 64. I have never seen this on Arab certificates either - so was hoping any of you was a grad from the الجامعة اللبنانية، كلية الفنون الجميلة
Dr. Hamzeh Thaljeh Sep 17, 2006:
مرحبا ! هل يمكن أن يكون المقصود هو علامة الجزء العكلي من المادة مثلا عندها تكون الكلمة جمع معمل والمقصود بها المخبر أي علامة المخابر العملية ربما
sktrans Sep 17, 2006:
I studied in Lebanon and none of my grades had a coefficient nor a factor.
Is the number total an average? a sum? of the 2 previous numbers?
sktrans Sep 17, 2006:
Could you provide a couple examples of the three numbers in question? Could the intermediate number be a grade for Laboratory or Practice work?

agree Ghina : I'm from Lebanon, and since we've been colonized by the french, we use the word "coefficient" in our eduction system to refer to the factor.

factor

I think it is a factor used to calculate the weight of the Mark in the total sum.
