D'après mes souvenirs (j'ai traduit un bouquin sur les armes), les cartouches peuvent contenir un noyau dur en acier ou un noyau "mou" en plomb.
Le plomb est un métal mou et malléable. On peut même le rayer avec l'ongle. Il n'y a pas d'autre composant en général dans une balle classique. Et ce qui fait que le plomb se déforme, s'écrase, se fragmente, c'est sa vitesse.
