English to Japanese Other History
I am working on a glossary of history and I can not find this term "griot" in any dictionaries. In the source document, griot is supposed to mean "storyteller". Does 語り手 sound ok or can anyone give me a correct word in Japanese characters ? Thanks in advance.

グリオ(西アフリカの口承伝承者)

カタカナで「グリオ」とするのが一般的です。
フランス語ですね。
厳密に言うと男性で、女性の場合はgriotteと女性形になります。

グリオは、音楽や魔術も伝承しますので「語り部」という限定的な言葉にはあまり賛成できません。
