English term

"in-market"

English to Japanese Marketing IT (Information Technology)
Hi all,

This phrase, "in-market" is used a few times throughout an article regarding the telecommunication industry.

Examples:
"Best In-Market Broadband Now Top Requirement for Global Telecommunications Firms"

"the importance of national and regional scale, cost and capital management and in-market consolidation"

"customers will gravitate toward service providers with the best in-market broadband networks"

I first thought it simply meant "in the target market." But a google search turned up a couple of articles with the same phrase with hyphens, and I'm now wondering if it has a more specific meaning.

And if it is indeed different from "in the market," what would be a clear/concise translation?

Any input, thoughts would be much appreciated.

@SJ I wouldn't know about that, but I'm pretty sure the term "in-market" means "in the target market", and that's how I would put it in Japanese.

I believe your original assumption is correct.
The article in the second link posted above talks about in-market, which having browsed through, means in the target market.
Below are some links related to the translation I suggested.

Thanks for your suggestion. Do you know if the text in the above pdf links were originally in English?

2 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thank you for your time and suggestion. I've come to a conclusion that it is closer to "in the target region," meaning "within the geographical area that the provider offers the service." This article helped me understand the word market in this context: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Media_market "

市販

Note from asker:
I looked at the above link, but there was no usage of "in-market" (with hyphenation). And "市販" won't make sense in the context of the second example above, which is "in-market consolidation." Any thoughts?
