English term

make up into four-ball tee time groups

English to Japanese Other Sports / Fitness / Recreation Golf
"Players are required to make up into four-ball tee time groups."

This is a rule set by a golf course. Could you explain what this means. I'd really appreciate if you could suggest some links to support your version of translating it.

I hope that there is a golf aficionado in this board.

Thank you.

Four-Ball

Four-Ball is one of match play. So I think Katakane would be fine for the translation in Japanese.

And I don't play golf, but "tee time" must be a starting time to play a game or match.

Please refer my links. It may help you.

foursome

I assume that it means that players must form groups of four. No pairs allowed.

I'm no golfer, but I've seen enough movies and TV dramas in which a stranger joins three people waiting to tee off. Then again, James Bond played Goldfinger one on one at St. Andrews....

The following URLs are from Google's 17,700 hits with keywords foursome, golf, and must.

The second contains the phrase "Groups must play as a foursome."

According to the following URL, \"foursome\" means something more that just \"four people\"--even though I\'m still left with the impression that I\'m not the only one making that mistake.

http://www.golfspain.com/ing/golfmania_reglas_seccion3_modal... defines foursome as \"A match in which two play against two, and each side plays one ball\" and \"four-ball\" as a match in which two play their better ball against the better ball of two other players.\"

In the UK at least, "foursome" is not correct.

フォー・テイーの メンバーに入る

I've played Three-Tee golf course (スリー・テイー ゴルフコース) that has short distance courses compaire from 9-holes. I haven't hard "Four-ball tea time" but only I haven't had enough experiances to ply golf, yet. From my knowledge, about the term must be one kind of exersise courses.

Golfers some times ask other golfer to make a group, for time cut and having fun to have a company.

フォアボールのグループを組む

下のサイトにフォアボールの説明があります。基本的には、2人ずつのチームが2組、計4人で各ホールを回っていくプレー法。トーナメントになると、このこの4人組が何組もあるわけです。

Tee time はプレー時間でよいと思います。4人で各ホールを回っていくと時間がかかるので、このプレー法をする人たちだけ集める必要があり、特筆したのでしょう。
