Hope no one minds I'm posting this in the English>Spanish KudoZ.
I'm translating a short documentary on Barcelona. This is what the script says:
"Unlike other big European city congestion, an effective one way system guides traffic through the old city and onto the grand boulevards of *Champla*..."
And it's about how it sounds, too, but it's not "Champla", is it ? :)
Many thanks.

Eixample
Valentin, your text is refering to El Eixample, a big extension of Barcelona, with wider streets and boulevards.
The translation can be The Extension, but I think the best is leave it in Catalonian. Everybody knows it as Eixample, and it sounds like echample, or champla.
My suggestion is don't translate it.

Note from asker:
It seems to be unclear that I don't want to translate it. I just need the correct spelling of the area, neighborhood or whatever, that would be pronounced by an English speaker as "Champla". Such as this "Exiample"... Thanks a lot. |

Champla
Anyone venturing the 60 miles or so toward Sestriere, the skiing resort developed by the Agnellis, should make a detour for Ristorante Du Grand-pere in the quaint village of --Champlas --Jancier (note the French influence; the border's about 10 miles away). About 3 miles outside Sestriere, the 60-seat restaurant in what used to be a house has exposed wood beam ceilings and windows that provide spectacular views of the snow- and pine-dotted Alps.
I found this article, maybe it is no need of translation, if it is a place.
good luck

Eixample
An area of Barcelona, certainly known for its boulevards!
Don't speak Catalan, but I imagine that pronunciation might come close.
