English term

LP

English Medical Medical (general)
Doctor's instructions regarding patient who overdosed on "bad" ecstasy:

"Let's start a Nitroprusside drip. Titrate to systolic pressure of a hundred and forty. We'd better start a cooling protocol, stat. Once the pressure's down we can rehydrate her. Let's set her up for an LP."

I need to know for certain what LP stands for.

Many thanks in advance.

They do mention the use of lorezepam (LP?), but your sentence seems to point to something else
Valentin Alupoaie (asker) May 14, 2008:
Sorry, this is all I have. Thanks for any help.
Jonathan MacKerron May 14, 2008:
it might mean "laboratory procedure", but no way of telling in your case. Is there no reference to this later in the text?

The BC method uses external information on the so-called latency period (LP) between onset of a process (e.g. HIV infection, first heroin use) and observed endpoint (e.g. AIDS diagnosis, first treatment
Another possibility would be "latency period"(drug related) but I'm not sure in this context either.

neutral Jonathan MacKerron : was my first thought as well, but still not enough info to go on I'm afraid

Not sure in this particular context either. I guess I am more courageous.
agree Nesrin : 'Ecstasy' intoxication...The brain computed tomography scan and lumbar puncture results were normal. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/14676510

Thank you Siegfried.
agree Luis Elizondo Herrera : Nesrin, is totally right, ecstasy intoxication triggers a medical diferential diagnosis with meningitis since you have a similar clinical presentation

Thank you edocr.
agree Michael Barnett : Hi Mihaela. I see that edocr is also a physician. There is no uncertainty here, no ambiguity, no lingering doubt, no need for more information. It is clearly, obviously, lumbar puncture.
