if only Rocmer... would provide the end of the sentence (effet ...quoi ?!) but Askers are often under pressure. Otherwise we are allplaying a guessing game.

sorry polyglot didn't mean to sound categorical and you are right. Without more context we do no know if it is a stitch or a pattern.

in knitting a "point" is a stitch (knit, purl...)

it would be helpful to see what comes after "effet" , if it is dotted/speckled / stippled (plenty possibilities at this stage!)

Raised (like dots)? jeux de points is used for a dot-to-dot drawing for kids - looking at images I note that for cardigans, etc it seems to depict a raised (chain) type look - This is not my field, but if you can find the right word for this kind of pattern (like on an Arran jersey) you may be on the right track
