I'm not currently working with agencies. I only have one direct client who uses an online platform for translations, specifically for software strings. The percentage is just off the top of my head, because I know it's not 50% of the work I do. It's difficult to work out what proportion of my income comes from revision (aka proofing) work as opposed to translation. | | | Alex Lichanow Germany Local time: 08:08 Member (2020) English to German + ...
Since I refuse to use any other online tool than Memsource, I only get very little online (cloud-based) work. While all of my memoQ jobs are performed on my clients' servers, memoQ itself is installed locally on my PC, so I guess it is not a part of the question here | | | Lieven Malaise Belgium Local time: 08:08 Member (2020) French to Dutch + ...
I've tried it and I hated it, so I abandoned it. If you work online the client is in control of the translation process and I don't think that's the way it's supposed to be. We're not puppets or shouldn't be it anyway. There seems to be a tendancy among certain agencies to 'bind' freelancers to the translation agency in a way they seem to be employees of said agency. But we're not. If they want employees they have to hire them (but of course they won't, because freelancers are way less expensive... See more I've tried it and I hated it, so I abandoned it. If they want employees they have to hire them (but of course they won't, because freelancers are way less expensive). We are supposed to be free birds, not slaves who should follow a zillion procedures for every agency. Apart from that I have invested in my own CAT software and gained a lot of experience in using it efficiently. If you are forced to translate online with another tool you lose that experience at least partly. ▲ Collapse | |

I don't work in the cloud or in any online tool or platform. | | | Ana Vozone Local time: 07:08 Member (2010) English to Portuguese + ... Around a third | Nov 3, 2022 |
I do quite a bit of work on client's platforms such as Wordbee (for many, many years), on MemoQ (client's license) and on a large agency's own platform (Wordfast). For regular clients for which I have created a TM, and whenever possible, I download the file (Word, PowerPoint and Excel) and work with Trados, and finally paste the translated text on the platform. | | | A lot on clients' platforms | Nov 3, 2022 |
But it's impossible to say whether it's more or it's less than 50% of my work. I really prefer to work in my own CAT tools but I have very good clients that require working on their platforms, so i comply. | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Poll: How much of your work do you do in an online tool or platform?
