Compras a prazo are forward purchases, i.e. an agreement to buy on a future date. The price is adjusted on the purchase date to reflect the amount due on that date (i.e. to include the interest due, and any price increases, in some cases). If the forward purchase is subsequently reversed (i.e. cancelled), the supplier is rewarded by the interest (resultado financeiro/forward rate) payable regarding the time that elapses between the agreement to purchase and the reversal date (fruição do prazo).
