Marcelo, thanks for your comment. I agree the glossary is enriched by diversity, especially when precise information is provided about regional variations.

Matt, just wondering: were you thinking of any sub-region in special?

Andean Spanish bizisyl: I agree; it could definitely be divided into subgroups. The more specific the information that the community provides with respect to where a given term or phrase is used, the more useful that information is. The degree to which variation exists in languages (in general), even within some countries that are not especially large (e.g., Colombia and England), is remarkable. And when it comes to informal language use (especially across social classes), the variation is even greater. The question should be broadened to include this rich diversity. After all, the KudoZ points can still go to "the most helpful" answer (and the glossary will be enriched in the process).

What is Andean Spanish? I'm not sure if I'm coming in a bit late in this discussion... but do you all have a clear idea of what is meant by Andean Spanish? Does it mean the Spanish spoken all along the Andes? I guess we would have several, very different subgroups within the varieties of South American Spanish. I'd love to hear what you think about this.

Why should the question be broadened if the asker wants specifically an expression or term used in a region (i.e., a localized answer)? There are at least two expressions that I know are used in the Andean region (see my answer below). There is nothing wrong with seeking a "localized" answer.

Nota: Otra expresion que se usa bastante en Am. Latina es "salar" . Creo que "Dar Pava" se entiende en los Andes ya que se usa en Colombia y Venezuela

neutral Carmen Schultz : No creo que sea apropiado en los Andes pues 'gafe" se parece mucho a la palabra "gafo" que se usa mucho en esos lares y significa tonto; aparte, la palabra 'gafe' no se usa para nada, en el contexto de mala suerte, en los países/lugares andinos
